Since you highlighted the Pace, I assume the 700 series must be theirs. Is that correct?

Everyday I turn my tv on after getting home from work, the tv says connecting to satellite and that's as far as it gets, I first try to turn the box off with the remote which i can but once i do it wont come back on, i have to hit the power switch on my plugin that everything is plugged into every time because it wont ever work!! then it takes FOREVER TO RESET !! and once it comes on and fixes it self it makes this loud click noise and i lose sound to the channel i am watching i have to scan to another channel and come back the sound comes back!!! HELP PLEASE IM NEW TO DIRECTV

Seems like a defective receiver/hdd. It's a HD-DVR right?

 

If So, try this... (Copy/pasted from another forum...)

 

Run the Built in Self-test (BIST) to try and repair your hard drive. To run the hard drive checks, please follow these steps:

 

* Reboot DVR via red button inside card door.

* When you see "Running receiver self-check" press select

* You will see "Entering Diagnostics Mode..."

* Select Advanced Tests Menu -> Hard Drive utilities -> Short Smart test

You can also run the file test, and the DVR can sometimes repair a bad file report.

If those tests pass, run the surface test. Warning: This process could take several hours to complete. You may want to run it overnight.

 

The good news is that every attempt is made to save programming. This is less destructive than a reformat all and could provide you with a more stable system if you are having problems that appear to be related to the hard drive.

Make sure sure that you are not connecting your satellite receiver to one of those "smart" power strips that shuts down some outlets when the  TV gets turn off.

This has nothing to do with a hard drive failure which is what those tests are for

Right, I don't know the codes for your Pioneer remote, but since you asked about the manufacturer, I provided the list that says that the -700 series are built by Pace Electronics

We have had problems EVERY SINGLE Sunday getting the ticket to show up.  One of the customer reps admitted it was a known issue.  And they refused to let us talk to a manager.  They were so kind and gave us $5 off.  Ridiculous!  We will be cancelling after the season and moving to TimeWarner probably.

Whole Home service with HD DVR's

I have whole home service, only one of my HD DVR's is connected to the HDDVR with a wireless adapter to pick up the signal from router upstairs, I've been reading here that these should not be connected via Ethernet but instead a DECA BB. What is a DECA BB? Where do I get them? OR can I use another Wireless adapter and or connect other DVR directly to the router?

  1. Directv installed that wireless adapter to your hd-dvr?
  2. what's the model of your receiver?
  3. can you share recordings between room?
  4. can you access youtube/pandora in none, one or both rooms?

I have been tearing my hair out over this issue as well.  Mostly HBO, but also STARZ.  I'm a network consultant, and use a SonicWall firewall, and already knew about the Content filter service issue, but it had been working perfectly for a year.  This all just started in August.  Called Cust Svc, usual run-around, but then a second call and the tech acknowledged they are aware of it and will send new software.

 

Yeah right.  A month later, no software update.

 

BUT.... found a fix!!  A user on another forum posted this (can't take credit) and it works!  As soon as you start playback of the VOD recording, press pause, then press frame advance (FF) quickly to advance it just one frame.  Then resume play.  Voila!  No more skip in audio!  And, it will stay this way for the rest of the time you watch it, whether you pause again or not.  So, to me this rules out a server issue, since it is already stored on your DVR.  Codec??  Who knows.  But at least this work-around is quick and easy, and so far- works every time.

 

Don't believe the "weak wireless" or network connectivity run around.  Mine is connected via Ethernet not wireless, into a very stable GB Ethernet network.  And, other VOD work fine.

 

Give it a try.  Solved a lot of hair pulling for me, until they resolve this- at least I can watch the programs.

Not just the Patriots, the Steelers now black out their press conferences but not the coaches show. I wonder if Fox Sports isn't the culprit.

Playback synchronization with Mini Genie

We just "Upgraded" from an HR12 to a Genie / Mini Genie combination.  We frequently watch the same show (usually news) on both rooms, which are close enough that you can hear the audio from one room to the other.  With the old setup this was not a problem, but now, since the Genie acts as a server, there is a time delay of about 3 seconds before the signal gets to the Mini Genie.  That makes it difficult to understand the audio when watching the same show in both rooms.

 

Is there any way to fix this?  I thought of getting another Mini Genie and connecting the main TV to it rather than to the Genie itself.  Would this work?  Will the Genie work properly without a TV connected to it?

I was looking for Antenna TV for 2-2 - it's receiving info as I type.

 

Is there a public database with this information?  Or is this something only available to you privately?

IT's not just that there is a server involved. With digital video, it is just about impossible to have audio sync between different TVs. That's because the video processing time in each TV is different and the TV delays the audio to match the processing time. If the two TVs are identical, you can get close to sync but not guaranteed. I think you just have to accept the issue......

Any chance the suggestion by astrojimbo could be implemented?  I'm not crazy about the idea of rooting my phone as I've never done it.

- I am presumming that your HR44 is showing up, in the settings tab of your iPad app.  Since you stated that you tried to enter the IP address.

- Have you ever been able to connect your HR44?

- From your iPad Safari; run this URL:  http://<ipaddress of HR44>:8080/info/getVersion

 

If it is successfull, it should give you about 8 ish rows of data, that includes the information about your HR44 (access card and receiver ID).

 

- If still successful, next go ON your HR44... open settings, then whole home.  Check to make sure EXTERNAL control is enabled.  If it isn't, turn it on.   If it is... turn it off, and then back on.

 

On your HR44 do you have any Mini-Genie Clients?

DIRECTV scheduler issue

I have been trying to record tv show via computer and cellphone for 5 days. Contacted DIRECTV and after 4 days was finally told that they are having scheduler issues.

No idea why, but I got it working again. I ran an extension cord from another outlet to the tv, and plugged both the dvr and the inserter directly ino the wall outlet. For whatever reason, the dvr booted up fine. I then plugged the original power strip back in and put the dvr on it, and again it booted up fine.

 

Makes no sense to me, but there it is.

I'm at work so I'll try your suggestions when I get home, but in a partial answer, yes, my HR44 does show up on the settings tab, and it has connected before. It was one of the ones that was usually connecting for awhile but it hasn't for the last two days. Last night I was connected to the other four receivers, looged out and back in; and was then connected to only three. About five minutes later, the fourth connected. None of them are Genie-minis. I have two HR24s and two stand-alone HD receivers (don't know model number offhand).

 

I'll chime back in after I try your suggestions.  Thanks!!
